Collaborations within and beyond the University

The Cluster is complemented by important central research facilities within the University and by cooperating research institutions in its vicinity but outside of the University.

The most relevant research facilities for SimTech are the High-Performance Computing Center (HLRS) and the Visualization Research Center (VISUS)

An important external partner is the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS) in Stuttgart and in nearby Tübingen. A substantial part of the MPI's research is in data science and artifical intelligence, and it is world-renowned for its research in machine-learning, learning-based methods and control, and physical intelligence. The close links between the University of Stuttgart and the MPI-IS are reaching beyond SimTech and are resulting from cooperation with the International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems and the Cyber Valley Initiative.

The Cyber Valley Initiative, launched by the State of Baden-Württemberg, incorporates MPI-IS, the University of Stuttgart, and the University of Tübingen as academic partners, and several renowned industry partners. Its goal is to take computational intelligence research to a distinctly international level.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (FhG IPA) specializes in solving organizational and technological challenges in the production environment of industrial enterprises. The German Aerospace Center (DLR) and our PR André Thess, the Director of the DLR Institute of Technical Thermodynamics, will cooperate closely with the Cluster as a partner in a Regional Research Alliance funded by the State. This alliance, which also includes the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Scientific Computing at nearby Heidelberg University, focuses on application scenarios for data-integrated simulation science, specifically related to energy storage. The German Institute of Textile and Fiber Research (DITF), Europe's largest center of applied research for the textile sector, has a long track record in simulation technology, smart data solutions, and knowledge-based systems.
