Research

The Stuttgart Center for Simulation Science (SC SimTech) performs research in many areas related to the wider field of simulation. This research is supported by several large collaborative research projects. The largest and most prominent of these project is currently the Cluster of Excellence “Data-integrated Simulation Science” (EXC 2075). SC SimTech and its precursor organization SRC SimTech were installed during the Cluster of Excellence “Simulation Technology” (EXC 310) which was funded by the DFG from 2007 to 2018. Since EXC 2075 is a new Cluster of Excellence building on the scientific and structural success of EXC 310, the University of Stuttgart is proud to receive Sustainability Funding for EXC 310 from the State of Baden-Württemberg in order to maintain the SimTech Professorships and SC SimTech management structures providing research support and opportunities beyond the research program of the EXC 2075.

In 2018, SC SimTech became the institutional home to a new DFG Collaborative Research Center “Interface-Driven Multi-Field Processes in Porous Media – Flow, Transport and Deformation” (SFB 1313) which is in its first funding period 2018- 2021. Although with clearly distinct research foci, researcher in SFB 1313 and EXC 2075 collaborate closely providing synergetic benefits for the University’s focus profile area Simulation Science.

Other prominent examples of projects running under the auspices of SC SimTech include two regional alliances.  These projects were funded by the Ministry of Science and Art of the State of Baden-Württemberg to foster excellent research collaborations between neighboring universities.
