On 26 October 2018, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Werner will be bid farewell to his well-deserved retirement with a public event.

"Hans-Joachim Werner has been a part of SimTech from the very beginning and has successfully helped to shape the first two SimTech phases, thus making a decisive contribution to the success of the Cluster of Excellence. But he has not only been indispensable for SimTech in recent years. Above all, we are very gratefull for his productive and above all successful commitment to the interests and reputation of the University of Stuttgart. We thank him for his work and wish him all the best for the next stage of his life," said Prof. Ehlers, spokesperson of the Stuttgart Cluster of Excellence and long-standing companion of Prof. Werner.

Werner, together with Prof. Dr. Christian Holm as head of research, coordinated the fate of Research Area A "Molecular and Particle Simulation".

In September, Prof. Werner was awarded the Erich Hückel Prize at the 54th Symposium for Theoretical Chemistry at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Among other things, he was honoured for his work and his dedication in the field of theoretical chemistry, which he has shaped like no other in the last decades.

In honour of his former director, the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry is now organising a special colloquium, which will take place on 26 October 2018 in lecture hall V55.02 (Kekulé lecture hall), Pfaffenwaldring 55, 70569 Stuttgart.

Guest lectures will be held by Professor Jürgen Gauss (Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz) and Professor Wim Klopper (KIT) on the topics "Toward the (exact) solution of the electron-correlation problem" and "Alternative approaches to the electron-correlation problem".
