YMMOR 2024 – Fostering Young Mathematicians in Model Order Reduction

October 20, 2023 / sä

Model Order Reduction, an integral part of computational science and engineering, plays a pivotal role in streamlining complex mathematical models. It aims to create simplified representations of intricate systems, preserving their essential dynamics while significantly reducing computational complexity. MOR has wide-ranging applications in fields such as control theory, data-driven modeling, and simulations, making it a cornerstone of modern research.

It is therefore with great pleasure that we announce the Young Mathematicians in Model Order Reduction conference – YMMOR 2024. Scheduled to take place from March 4th to March 8th at the University of Stuttgart, this event marks the third edition of this gathering, with previous conferences held in Münster in 2022 and Ulm in 2023.

YMMOR 2024 is supported by the Industrial Consortium SimTech e. V. and the Cluster of Excellence SimTech and made possible by the efforts of the organizing team, consisting of the doctoral and postdoctoral researchers:

  • Tobias Ehring (Institute of Applied Analysis and Numerical Simulation)
  • Robin Herkert (Institute of Applied Analysis and Numerical Simulation)
  • Sanath Keshav (Institute of Applied Mechanics (MIB))
  • Jonas Kneifl (Institute of Engineering and Computational Mechanics)
  • Mattia Manucci (SimTech, Independent Research Group for Dynamical Systems)
  • Jonas Nicodemus (SimTech, Independent Research Group for Dynamical Systems)

"YMMOR is a great opportunity for early career researchers just like us and more than just a conference. It’s more like a platform for learning and collaboration in the field of Model Order Reduction that we want to provide. It's a chance to connect with like-minded peers, to discuss ideas, and to establish connections. So mark your calendars and join us in March in Stuttgart”, states Sanath Keshav.

The conference which is organized by and designed exclusively for early career researchers including master’s students, doctoral and early postdoctoral researchers offers a unique opportunity. It will feature presentations that cater specifically to the needs of budding researchers. YMMOR 2024 will host sessions where young scientists will present their own research and engage in discussions with each other.

The Cluster of Excellence SimTech at the University of Stuttgart, known for its work in the field of models, methods and simulation, stands to gain immensely from YMMOR 2024. With its emphasis on Model Order Reduction, the conference aligns closely with one of the core research areas of SimTech. Wolfgang Nowak, spokesperson of the Cluster therefore underlines that “the conference's interdisciplinary nature and focus on MOR will offer SimTech's early career researchers a platform to showcase ongoing research at the forefront of this evolving field and foster collaborations beyond the University of Stuttgart”.
