As SimTech’s dedicated Manager for Diversity and Equity, Hiser Sedik (she/her) is committed to developing and implementing measures that foster an inclusive, respectful, and appreciative research environment. Her work ensures that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are not only guiding principles but actively put into practice across the Cluster.

Drawing on the DFG’s diversity standards as well as insights from internal and external DEI surveys, she focuses on creating sustainable structures that address the real needs of researchers and staff.

  • Onboarding of new members – ensuring an inclusive start at SimTech
  • Work–life balance & caregiving responsibilities – supporting researchers with care duties
  • Mental health – raising awareness and promoting well-being
  • LGBTQ+ inclusion & anti-discrimination – building safe and visible spaces
  • Support for people from diverse social backgrounds – widening access and participation

Due to her personal background, Hiser Sedik places strong emphasis on an intersectional perspective in her work. This means that overlapping forms of discrimination and privilege (e.g., based on gender, ethnicity, sexuality, or social background) are considered in all DEI measures.

The Diversity and Equity Manager works closely with various actors across the University of Stuttgart, including:

  • Service Uni und Familie (University and Family Services)
  • uniqUS – Unit for Inclusive University Culture
  • Corporate Health Management & Occupational Medical Service
  • Welcome Center / University Language Center
  • Various faculties (e.g., in jointly conducted doctoral procedures)
  • Cluster of Excellence IntCDC – Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture
  • Other university contact points (Anti-Discrimination Office, Inclusion, Ombudsperson

Hiser Sedik is available for any questions, suggestions, or ideas regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion at SimTech. Depending on the topic and individual needs, she can also connect you with additional support services within and outside the university.
