The Special Interest Group Data Infrastructure offers a forum to interested working groups that want to set up or further develop an RDM infrastructure at working group or institute level. We invite you to a monthly SIGDIUS seminar, to which we invite internal and external experts for presentations and discussions. SIGDIUS members will have the opportunity to exchange their experiences with concrete RDM infrastructures.

We cordially invite all interested parties to our next meeting on 3 November 2021 at 2pm. Due to the current situation, this seminar will be held as an online seminar.  For participation, please send an e-mail to with the subject line "SIGDIUS seminar 3.11."

Norbert Kockmann (TU Dortmund):
"From ontologies to metadata and knowledge graphs – current activities in NFDI4Cat"

Data structures and their accessibility are described by ontologies, since they are used to represent relations among terms offering denser representations for the relationships. Thus, an ontology can describe conceptional knowledge in an explicit way for human and machine access. The presentation describes how ontologies are applied to ease the exchange and reuse of knowledge with examples from process engineering and biocatalysis. An equipment and process ontology is explained based on existing ontologies to build a knowledge graph of the experiments. This connects the ontology to the experimental data according to the FAIR principles for future data handling. Further applications are discussed in the view of improved user access and acceptance.

Bernd Flemisch (IWS, University of Stuttgart):
"Defining and implementing a joint demonstrator for SimTech's PN5"
