The Special Interest Group Data Infrastructure offers a forum to interested working groups that want to set up or further develop an RDM infrastructure at working group or institute level. We invite you to a monthly SIGDIUS seminar, to which we invite internal and external experts for presentations and discussions. SIGDIUS members will have the opportunity to exchange their experiences with concrete RDM infrastructures.

NFDI4Chem: A FAIR infrastructure for research data management in chemistry

The German National Research Data Infrastructure for Chemistry (NFDI4Chem) aims to develop repositories, workflows and data standards to support researchers in all steps of the research data management (RDM) life cycle [1]. A key element is the early capturing of research data in rich, semantically annotated form in the lab using electronic laboratory notebooks and analytical device integration. Once this has been accomplished, data can easily be submitted to specialized and generic repositories either provided by the NFDI or by international organizations. NFDI4Chem operates within the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) which eventually will comprise 30 collaborating consortia covering all areas of science. It can be expected that initiatives like the NFDI will substantially improve the situation for data intensive sciences such as cheminformatics. While structural information is now available in abundance, rich collections of experimentally determined properties of chemical compounds and materials are still rare. NFDI4Chem will provide such experimental data with associated structure and experimental information. In order to achieve this, a wide-spread adoption by researchers will be required. This talk, the speaker will outline the work and achievements after two years of development of NFDI4Chem.
