We warmly invite you to the public inaugural lecture of Dr.-Ing. Xu Chu, held as part of his habilitation process. The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 7 May 2025 at 4:00 PM in lecture hall V 9.41, Pfaffenwaldring 9, 70569 Stuttgart. It will be held in English.

Titled “OpenFOAMGPT: an AI Engineer”, the lecture delves into the growing influence of large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek, and how they are already transforming the way we work and live. AI-driven tools—like Co-Counsel for legal professionals or Microsoft’s Copilot—are rapidly becoming standard solutions across a wide range of industries. But how can these technologies be leveraged in the field of engineering?

With OpenFOAMGPT, Dr. Chu presents the world’s first AI “engineer” tailored specifically for computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Developed as a multi-agent framework, OpenFOAMGPT seamlessly integrates preprocessing, simulation, and analysis into a fully automated end-to-end CFD workflow. It is compatible with various LLMs and even supports local deployment, offering flexibility, scalability, and data privacy.

By accelerating research and development and significantly reducing computational costs, OpenFOAMGPT represents a major step forward in the integration of AI into engineering practice—opening up new opportunities for both academia and industry.
