The University of Stuttgart's School for Talents is gearing up for an exciting new season with its 2024/25 annual program themed “Expanding Realities – New Visions” which also includes contributions from SimTech. The School for Talents initiative is designed to engage academically strong Bachelor and Master students who are eager to push the boundaries of their disciplines and explore interdisciplinary research.
This year’s theme, "Expanding Realities – New Visions," centers on breakthrough research in quantum technology and bionic intelligence exploring the ramifications of AI on daily life in the coming decade. Students will collaborate closely with researchers, experts, and peers to delve into these topics and their wider societal impacts.
The program will kick off on April 26, including a workshop on “Simulated Reality – Analyzing Flooding Scenarios in a Sandbox” by SimTech’s Junior Professor Marco Oesting, Institute of Stochastics and Applications, and doctoral researcher Oliver König, Institute of Applied Analysis and Numerical Simulation. In this session, participants will discuss why simulations are useful and what needs to be considered: What are the requirements for simulations and how can uncertainties be taken into account? Finally, participants will have the opportunity to use the sandbox to try out how flood scenarios can be analyzed with the help of simulations.
Another workshop in May by the group of SimTech PR Michael Sedlmair, Visualization Research Center of the University of Stuttgart (VISUS), will focus on the real-world application of our research and on how technological advancements within SimTech’s research will potentially affect our lives in the years/decades to come.
Through this joint effort, the School for Talents and SimTech are not just nurturing academic excellence but are also preparing students for lifelong learning and adaptation in a rapidly evolving world, paving the way for meaningful contributions to both their fields and broader society.
Dr. Jenny Kopsch-Xhema, SimTech CEO, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: "Our partnership with the School for Talents is crucial in bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application. It serves as a model for how academic institutions can work together to equip students with the tools necessary to lead in an interconnected and technologically advanced world. By joining forces, we are not only enhancing the educational landscape but also encouraging the next generation of scientists and thinkers.”
Funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) under Germany's Excellence Strategy, the program provides two pathways for talented Bachelor and Master students. They can engage in Faculty Projects to deepen knowledge in their own field of study/discipline or join the innovative Annual Program. Here, they form interdisciplinary teams to work on projects that stretch beyond traditional academic boundaries.
