New DFG funding for open-source framework for complex flow simulations

November 2, 2023 / mm

SimTech participating researchers Andrea Beck (Institute for Aerodynamics and Gas Dynamics, IAG) and Bernd Flemisch (Institute for Modelling Hydraulic and Environmental Systems, IWS) have successfully gained new DFG funding for their project fair-flexi. Fair-flexi is a high-quality, well-documented and easily accessible open-source framework for complex flow simulations. It is based on FLEXI, a successful, widely used and sustainable open-source code and on FuRY, the demonstrator for full reproducibility. With the fair-flexi framework, they plan to generate a fully automated tracing of user-framework interactions that guarantees full reproducibility. Each simulation then conducted with this framework can be stored with necessary steps, codes used and metadata in the Dataverse and shared via a DOI. The duration of the project is 36 months.

In order to achieve these ambitious goals, the developers of FLEXI at IAG will continue to work with the SimTech research data management team and the group of Bernd Flemisch at IWS, who have been instrumental in creating the demonstrator and database interface.

Congratulations!

The FuRY framework for complete reproduction: In the forward pass (top), all tracing data leading to the file Results.PNG is tracked and stored under a DOI. In the backward pass (bottom), this can be accessed and unrolled to reproduce the full chain.
