Argyris Visiting Professorship
With this award, the SC SimTech commemorates Stuttgart-based Professor John Argyris, one of the most decorated experts and innovative thinkers in the field of simulation science.
What does the Argyris Visiting Professorship involve?
The holder of the "Argyris Visiting Professorship" is invited to the University of Stuttgart for an on site research stay of at least three weeks at a time and up to a maximum of three months. In addition, the public "Argyris Lecture" is an integral part of the award. The Argyris Lecture gives the visiting professor the opportunity to present their academic work to a wide audience.
For the nomination, at least three further points must be selected from the following portfolio and presented in the nomination letter:
- A talk in the framework of the SimTech Colloquium
- A seminar for the SimTech Graduate School with a scope of 10-12 events of 1.5 hours each (which can also be divided into block events)
- An event together with the Industrial Consortium SimTech e. V.
- An event together with the Society of SimTech e. V.
- A meet & greet with the early career researchers in SimTech on his/her own scientific work and/or topics such as career paths or something similar
- A lecture for students - if feasible (otherwise another item from the portfolio must be selected)
Who can nominate?
Nominations of eligible candidates for the “Argyris Visiting Professorship” can be submitted until January 10, 2024. Nominations may be submitted by scientists and academics who are currently employed at a university or non-university research institution in Germany or abroad.
What should the nomination include?
In addition to a nomination letter (max. one page), the nomination documents should also include
- a curriculum vitae,
- a list of scientific publications of the proposed scientist,
- a concrete proposal regarding the period of the stay and
- the indication of the three selected relevant points from the portfolio
The selection committee is composed of experts from different areas of simulation science as well as members of the SC SimTech Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Board. The most important criteria for evaluating the proposals are personal excellence, scientific relevance and originality of the work as well as its relation to topics of the SC SimTech.
The funded stay is scheduled to take place in 2024. The SC SimTech will cover the costs incurred during the stay. The SimTech Management Team will coordinate the stay and a corresponding program in close coordination with the nominating person.
