July 11, 2024

The SimTech Committee for Knowledge Transfer is pleased to announce the appointment of Junior Professor Benjamin Uekermann as a startup advisor. This initiative aims to support and accelerate the startup process for innovative projects at the intersection of science and industry.

Startup advisors play a crucial role in the startup ecosystem, especially in a scientifically oriented environment such as the University of Stuttgart and SimTech. They regularly conduct informational events to raise awareness of startup potentials and support offerings. They act as multipliers, promoting the ENI's qualification offerings to the faculties and institutes. Through their on-site presence, they ensure the necessary visibility of the various qualification opportunities and events offered by the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research (ENI). As the first point of contact, startup advisors support the startup representatives in identifying and promoting potential spin-off projects. Moreover, they benefit from an exciting network that provides access to valuable resources and experts.

Benjamin Uekermann brings extensive experience and expertise to the role of startup advisor. His impressive academic and professional career includes research stays at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the USA and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center in Spain, as well as a degree in Mathematics from the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He is also significantly involved in the development of the coupling software preCICE, which is used for the simulation of coupled problems in engineering. Currently, Benjamin Uekermann is a junior professor for Usability and Sustainability of Simulation Software at the University of Stuttgart and a member of SimTech.

In his role as a startup advisor, he will offer bi-annual informational events on the topic of startups and actively promote ENI's qualification offerings. He will ensure the visibility of ENI's offerings on-site, including qualification opportunities and events, and serve as the first point of contact and supporter.

The role of the startup advisor is closely linked to the work of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research (ENI) and the Transfer Center TRACES at the University of Stuttgart. The ENI promotes entrepreneurship in theory and practice with an interdisciplinary approach that combines new technologies, innovation, and science with the idea of sustainability. The Transfer Center aims to generate innovative and future-oriented solutions through the exchange of ideas and knowledge and to make them economically and socially usable.

The close collaboration between ENI, Transfer Center, startup advisors, and startup representatives is aimed at creating optimal conditions for knowledge and technology transfer, thereby further strengthening the innovative power and competitiveness of the University of Stuttgart and the region.
