At the end of 2021, Dr.-Ing. Arndt Wagner successfully completed his habilitation at the University of Stuttgart in a joint procedure of Faculty 2 and the Stuttgart Center for Simulation Science (SC SimTech). Under pandemic conditions, he defended his habilitation thesis with the title “Continuum Mechanics of Multicomponent Materials – Modelling, Numerics and Applications for Biological Materials in the Framework of the Theory of Porous Media” and gave his inaugural lecture “Continuum mechanics meets porous materials: What is that good for?”.
During the last years, his scientific focus was on modelling and simulation techniques of the TPM applied to various kinds of porous materials, e. g., geotechnical, engineering and biological tissues. In his habilitation procedure, the particular interest was related to continuum-biomechanical problems. Research in continuum biomechanics provides a high potential for clinical/medical innovations. Until today, standard treatment is typically performed without underlying models and simulations. Bringing powerful simulation tools into the clinic will help to improve the patient-specific clinical success and minimise unwanted side effects. However, computational biomechanics is a challenging and interdisciplinary field, covering significant ingredients from the disciplines biology, chemistry and physics.
Arndt Wagner, a father of three young children, received his doctorate in 2014 from the Faculty 2: Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Stuttgart. In 2013, he was appointed as “Akademischer Rat” and, later on, as “Akademischer Oberrat” in 2017 at the Institute of Applied Mechanics, where he is now established as a “Privatdozent” in the field “Continuum Mechanics”. Wagner is not only Participating Researcher in the Cluster of Excellence and conducts research in project PN2-2 but also Principal Investigator in the SFB 1313 “Interface-Driven Multi-Field Processes in Porous Media – Flow, Transport and Deformation” and conducts research in the projects B02 and C03.
Congratulations!!
