EXC 2075

The Cluster of Excellence EXC 2075 “Data-Integrated Simulation Science” has been advancing a new paradigm in Simulation Science at the University of Stuttgart since 2019. Embedded in the Stuttgart Center for Simulation Science (SC SimTech), the Cluster brings together researchers from different disciplines to investigate how data from experiments, observations and simulations can be systematically integrated into modelling and computational methods.

At its core is the question of how simulation can remain a reliable tool for understanding and predicting increasingly complex systems when models are incomplete, data are heterogeneous or uncertain, and conventional computational approaches reach their limits. The research carried out from 2019 to 2025 established a broad methodological foundation for data-integrated simulation, spanning model-data integration, uncertainty quantification, machine learning, adaptive methods, and new forms of interaction with simulations.

Building on these foundations, research in 2026 and 2027 continues to address key open questions that have emerged from this work. It further develops the methodological ideas of data-integrated simulation. It explores new approaches for making simulations more reliable, efficient and informative – while creating perspectives for future interdisciplinary research in Simulation Science.
