Niels Hansen studied chemical and process engineering at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). After he obtained his PhD from TUHH in 2010, working with Prof. Frerich J. Keil, he became postdoctoral fellow at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich, working with Prof. Wilfred F. van Gunsteren. He completed his habilitation at ETH in 2015. In 2014 he became assistant professor of Molecular Thermodynamics at the University of Stuttgart.
Research focus: Molecular modelling with applications to host-guest binding, protein stability, structure refinement, self-assembly and catalysis.
