Dr.-Ing. Xu Chu, a former habilitand at SimTech and the Institute for Aerospace Thermodynamics, has recently embarked on a new academic journey as a permanent Senior Lecturer in Data-Centric Engineering at the University of Exeter in the UK. This prestigious institution, ranked 153rd in the 2024 QS World University Rankings, is also known for being the alma mater of J.K. Rowling, the renowned author of the Harry Potter series.
Dr. Xu Chu's new role at the University of Exeter, which began in early May, will see him integrating thermal fluids and data-driven methods in his research and teaching. Additionally, he will be spearheading the development of a new MSc program in Data-Driven Engineering, contributing significantly to the university's academic offerings.
Dr. Chu's academic roots are deeply embedded at the University of Stuttgart, where he completed his Diploma, Ph.D., PostDoc, and is on the verge of finishing his habilitation. His tenure at SimTech was marked by extensive research freedom, enabling fruitful collaborations with international peers and the development of a robust research portfolio. During his time here, he was also actively involved in the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1313, where he made significant contributions.
Reflecting on his time at SimTech, Dr. Chu expressed profound gratitude to his mentors, Prof. Bernhard Weigand, Prof. Rainer Helmig, and Prof. Holger Steeb, whose guidance was instrumental in his academic growth. He also cherished the opportunity to co-develop and deliver engaging lectures with Prof. Heng Xiao. Additionally, Dr. Chu extended his heartfelt appreciation to all his colleagues at SimTech for their unwavering support and collaboration, which greatly enriched his professional journey.
