Visions
SimTech pushes the frontiers in developing simulation technology for the future. The central challenge is to develop reliable, easy-to-use, cyber-based methodologies and tools from simulation applets to robust error-controlled scientific tools and intelligent simulation frameworks scalable on future hardware architectures.
Our mission is to advance Simulation Technology from isolated numerical approaches to an Integrative Systems Science, supported by research at methodological and fundamental levels up to industrial applications and communication to science, policy and society. This differs substantially from the traditional approach, in which engineering and natural scientists mainly develop “isolated” numerical methods.
Since 2007, the long-term visions of the Cluster have been demonstrated in five visionary future application areas. Our visionary applications serve two purposes. Firstly, they are our central motivation which stress and exemplify the common requirements of fundamental research on Simulation Technology. Secondly, they will profit from our scientific findings and form the driving force and the goal for the transfer to application. Among the five visionary applications are classical core competences of our university with immediate transfer to application, the expanding field of systems biology and the long-term vision of modelling the overall human.
