2nd International Conference on Simulation Technology | 26-28/3/18

In March 2018, SimTech held a three-day international conference on simulation technology.

After a first conference on simulation technology in 2011, the 2nd International Conference on Simulation Technology (SimTech 2018) took place at the University of Stuttgart in March 2018.

From 26 to 28 March 2018, the simulation researchers from all over the world gathered at the University of Stuttgart for the 2nd International Conference on Simulation Technology. The conference agenda covers many topics relevant to the field of simulation technology – such as advanced mechanics, molecular simulations, numerical mathematics, interactive visualization and many more. By bringing together all these topics at SimTech 2018, we move towards our goal within the Stuttgart Cluster of Excellence in Simulation Technology: to develop simulation technology from isolated numerical approaches towards an integrative systems science.

On Monday, 26th March the conference started with a festive opening, during which the participants from all over the world were welcomed by the general chairs and prepared for the next days, accompanied by music from the orchestra of the University of Stuttgart. The scientific program started right away, which consisted of 14 Keynote Lectures held by top-class scientists and of seven Mini Symposia, each with several invited speakers from the seven project networks of the SC SimTech.

At the end of the first conference day a reception took place in relaxed atmosphere with music, drinks and a nice buffet, where the invited scientists and participants from various areas of politics, science and economy as well as interested students were able to exchange or to bring the day to a close.

The highlight of the social program, which enriched the highly topical matters of the three days took place on Tuesday, 27th March at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, into which SimTech invited its guests. At first the party had the opportnuity to explore the unique building and the comprehensive exhibition in camera and then to gather for a dinner speech of Dr. Sabine Lutz.

Finally, on Wednesday, 28th March the 13 best posters were honoured with the Best Poster Award. Prices for the three best contributions were funded by the Industrial Consortium of SimTech.

All over the three conference days researchers from various fields of natural science, industry, politics and humanities have gathered under the connecting aim to come to an integrated systems science by simulation technology. One listened to each other’s lectures and caught up on current projects and efforts in the field of simulation science. The conference especially provided the opportunity to discuss the potentials and the future in application and development of simulation technologies.
