Its mentoring concept is a distinctive feature of the Simulation Technology study programme. Starting with the third semester, all Bachelor’s students are assigned a personal mentor. The mentors act to

Good advice from a personal advisor
Even before beginning Master’s studies, the students choose a personal technical advisor whose disciplinary specialty parallels the student’s intended study emphasis.
- Advisors aid the students in determining the Master’s programme’s modules and hence its emphases.
- Even when still working on their study projects, the students will already be integrated into the advisor’s research group.
- Normally, the subject of the Master’s research paper is chosen from the advisor’s research area.
The study programme is part of the Stuttgart Center for Simulation Sciences (SC SimTech). Seven of the ten University of Stuttgart faculties have contributed SC SimTech’s lead researchers with the result that they represent the most varied disciplines. They mold the study programme both as teachers and as mentors.

Simulation Technology is designed to equip its graduates for a career in research. The Master’s study programme prepares students optimally for doctoral studies. The mentoring concept lets students already make valuable connections in science early on. Many of the first men and women after earning their Master’s degrees in 2016 went directly into PhD programmes in the simulation technology area.
Careers in business and development
Thanks to their interdisciplinary training, graduates are employable in many areas – ranging from automotive development to environmental technology. Already starting with activities in the Industrial Consortium SimTech e. V. and the Society of Simulation Technology e. V., students can already make contacts in specialized business enterprises early in their studies.
Since 2014, students in the Master’s study programme can earn a second, dual degree in cooperation with Eindhoven Technical University. In addition to receiving the Master of Science in Simulation Technology from SimTech, dual degree students graduate from the Dutch partner university with a degree in Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
